OPK to complete production of generators for 1st FNPS by 2009
United Industrial Corporation (OPK) plans to complete the production of steam-generators for the 1st in the world Floating Nuclear Power Station (FNPS) by 2009. Operations are being carried out according to schedule. Steam-generators are manufactured by Baltiysky Zavod that is a part of OPK. Floating Nuclear Power Station is an all-important strategic project in evolution of nuclear power.
For one's part Federal Public Unitary Enterprise (FPUE) "Experimental Engineering Design Office by Afrikantov" (Nijny Novgorod, the designer of reactor-plant for FNPS) plans to carry out this project only be 2010.
At the end of 2006 OPK and FPUE "Experimental Engineering Design Office" made a contract on producing 8 steam-generators for Floating Nuclear Power Station. The Production of the 2nd set of steam-generators was completed in October 2008.
Floating Nuclear Power Station looks like non-self-propelled vessel of 144 m in length, 30 m in weight and 21,5 thousand tons displacement. Floating Nuclear Power Station will consist of two nuclear-power-plants of 70 megawatts. This station is planed to operate approximately 40 years. FNPS will be located in the north of Russian Federation, where there is a lack of energy.
OPK is managing shipbuilding assets, including such industry majors as Severnaya Verf, Baltiysky Zavod, Iceberg Design Office, and other machine-building facilities. During OPK’s operation in this sphere, the shipyards have supplied their customers with military and civil ships costing a total of US$3.2 bn. OPK’s strategic target is to set up a modern shipbuilding facility capable of making seagoing vessels ranging up to 300 thou. tons in deadweight, the annual deadweight output being 500 thou. tons.
