Throughput of Murmansk Commercial Seaport up 21% to 1.4 mln t in Jan 09
In January 2009, Murmansk Commercial Seaport OJSC handled 1.415 million tonnes of cargo (+20.9%, year-on-year), the company’s press center reports.
In the reported period, transshipment of export cargo totaled 1.362 million tonnes (+21%) including 1.152.9 million tonnes of coal, 89,500 tonnes of apatite, 46,800 tonnes of non-ferrous metal.
Total transshipment of general cargo amounted to 100,200 tonnes, dry bulk – 1.314 million tonnes.
JSC Murmansk Commercial Seaport was established in 1994 on base of the public enterprise and nowadays it is one of Russia’s busiest ports. The port has 17 berths with total length of some 3,000 meters. The length and depth enables the port to handle vessels of up to 15.5 meters in draft and over 265 meters in length. The port mainly handles non-ferrous metal and alloys, rolled ferrous metal, coal, apatite concentrate, alumina; scrap metal and iron-ore pellets, chemicals in big-bags, construction materials, foodstuffs, technological equipment and containerized cargo. In 2008 the company handled 14.329.183 million tonnes of cargo.
