LDz Cargo increased both import and export cargoes in Jan 09
LDz Cargo Ltd., a subsidiary of the state-owned joint-stock railroad company Latvijas dzelzcels (LDz), transported 4.9 million tons of cargo in the first month of 2009, which is 3% less when compared to January 2008, according to information from LDz.
Even though the total amount of cargo transported has decreased by 153,000 tons, the amount of export cargo increased to 187,000 tons. There has also been an increase in import cargo, as well as cargo going through Latvian ports, informed BC LDz Cargo.
At the same time, there has been a reduction in domestic cargo transported within Latvia and transit cargo, carrying respectively 96,000 tons and 295,000 each.
In January 2009, a total of 2.08 million tons of oil products were transported in Latvia, which is 3.6% more when compared to January 2009, when 2.01 million tons was transported.
The volume of coal cargo transported through Latvia last month was 1.8 million tons, which is 24.5% more when compared to the same month in 2008.
