Pella Shipbuilding plant launches new tugboat built for Ust-Luga Company
On February 6, 2009 Pella Leningrad Shipbuilding Plant OJSC (Otradnoye, Leningrad region) has launched the Taimen tugboat being built for Ust-Luga Company OJSC, press center of Ust-Luga Company reports.
The Taimen tugboat is the fourth tugboat made against the order of Ust-Luga Company at Pella shipbuilding plant. It is to provide entry of large capacity vessels into the port. The horsepower of the new tugboat is 4 200 hp.
As reported by PRIME-TASS earlier, Pella Leningrad Shipbuilding Plant OJSC has already built 3 tugboats for Ust-Luga Company OJSC — the Beluga, the Navaga and the sevryuga. The tugboats berth and unberth vessels, provide icebreaker services and deliver pilot in winter time. They also perform some auxiliary functions necessary for the port work. By the time of full development of the port, Ust-Luga Company plans to have about 20 tugboats.
Ust-Luga Company OJSC is the customer-developer of Ust-Luga Sea Merchant port. The project is implemented within the framework of the Federal target program of «Modernization of the Russian Transport System» on the principles of Public Private Partnership. The current scheme of the master plan of Ust-Luga development provides for construction of 16 terminals for handling various cargoes: rolling, general, container, loose, bulk and other goods. The commissioned facilities include: the Coal Terminal, the Car-Railway ferry Complex, the Universal Transshipment Complex, the first stage of the Yug-2 Multipurpose Transshipment complex. The estimated cargo transshipment volume by 2015 is 170 mln. tons, 50 mln. tons per year of that amount will be provided by the Baltic Pipeline System-2 (BPS-2).
