CSSC yards get tanker deal from Stolt Tankers

China Shipbuilding Group Corporation (CSSC) units Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co Ltd and China Shipbuilding Trading Co (CSTC) have sealed a deal with Stolt Tankers to build five 38,000 dwt stainless steel parcel tankers, with options for another three, and with deliveries expected to take place from December 2015 onwards, Seatrade Asia online reports.

The agreement is subject to satisfactory financing being obtained.

The fuel-efficient ships will give Stolt operational flexibility with their fully stainless steel cargo tanks, cargo pumps, heating and cooling capacity. The order represents about half of Stolt's required replacement tonnage through 2016, given its present contract portfolio, the company said.

The new ships will replace five 1986-built parcel tankers scheduled for recycling in 2016.
