Jurong box volume drops in January
Singapore's Jurong Port reported a sharp decline in container throughput for the month of January as the global economic slowdown continued to hurt trade between Asia and the developed overseas markets.
The port handled 58,000 TEUs in January, an 18.31 percent drop on the 71,000 TEU throughput handled during the same month last year.
Last year, Jurong Port recorded a throughput that was just short of the one million container mark. It is unlikely that milestone will be passed this year unless there is a stunning increase in trade.
