Throughput of Vostochny Port down 13% to 1.49 mln t in Jan 09
In January 2009, Vostochny Port handled 1.497.8 million tonnes of cargi (-13.3%, year-on-year), PortNews IAA learnt from Vostochny branch of RosMorPort FSUE.
In the reported period, transshipment of dry cargo amounted to 1.455.0 million tonnes (-14.4%) including 1.308.6 million tonnes of dry loose and bulk cargo (-6.6%). Transshipment of coal totaled 1.245.6 million tonnes (-4.2%), mineral fertilizers – 63,000 tonnes (-33.6%). In January transshipment of general cargo totaled 24,400 tonnes (+22.6%) including 20,500 tonnes of scrap metal (up 2.6 times). The port’s container throughput totaled 16,293 TEU (-47%). Transshipment of oil products grew by over 1.5-fold to 42,800 tonnes.
Vostochny port is the deepest Far-Eastern port of Russia. It is located in the southern part of the Primorsky Krai on the shore of the Sea of Japan within 20 kilometers from Nakhodka – end point of Trans-Siberian Line. The port has year round navigation. The port is possible of handling vessels with a draft up to 15.5 meters, length up to 280 meters and breadth up to 40 meters. The port comprises 15 cargo berths, a number of auxiliary berths and a maintenance pier. Total length of the berthing line is about 4 kilometers. These berths are part of terminals used for transshipment of coal, containers, fertilizers, methanol, timber, bulk and general cargo.
