Maersk Line completes 100 calls of MECL 2 at Chennai
Chennai, Feb. 16 Maersk Line, a division of the A.P. Moller-Maersk Group, and the world’s largest container shipping line, has completed 100 calls of the MECL 2 service at Chennai. MECL 2 is South India’s only direct weekly service to the US East Coast. The MECL 2 service, which was launched in March 2007, serves the main ports on the East Coast of the US, namely Newark, Savannah and Houston.
Direct coverage
It provides a direct coverage from Chennai to the US East Coast and improved transit from other South and East India locations over Colombo transhipment, says a company press release.
From January, Maersk Line improved its MECL 2 service coverage by incorporating Houston as a direct port of call, thereby, doing away with the transhipment to this port.
This will also serve as the gateway to the US Gulf Region.
MECL 2 also provides transport solutions for cargo destined for Africa, Europe and South American destinations, by connecting to its Global Service Networks over Colombo and Salalah, says the release.
