North-Western Shipping Company cuts transportation by 7% to 5.122 mln t in 2008
In 2008, North-Western Shipping Company carried 5.122 million tonnes of cargo (+7%, year-on-year) including 3.72 million tonnes of foreign trade cargo, the company’s PR department reports. The company attributes the decrease to freight market decline caused by the financial crisis. Before November 2008 the fleet of the company was fully loaded and in certain segments it exceeded transportation volumes as compared with the results of 2007.
Proceeds from the company’s core activities – cargo transportation – totaled $135.151 mln (+20.9%) including $109.935 mln from foreign voyages (+17.2%) and $4.524 mln from time-chartering (+22%).
In summer navigation the number of tugging operations grew by 12.3%, proceeds from tugging fleet’s activities doubled as compared with 2007 to $2.854 mln.
Shipbuilding and ship repairing companies of NWSC Holding provided services for RUR 127.131 mln.
NWSC passenger port rendered services to 376,200 passengers (+56%, year-on-year) and 1,187 vessels (+43.9%).
