Portland box traffic falls 28pc in January
The Port of Portland has suffered a 28 per cent year on year decline in container volume in January, after handling a total of 15,961 TEU.
The total features "big drops" in import and export boxes moving through the Columbia River port, with inbound containers falling 32.6 per cent to 6,677 TEU and outbound boxes decreasing by 23.8 per cent to 9,284 TEU, reports Newark's Journal of Commerce.
The slowdown in box volumes comes as vessel calls declined by 24 per cent to 54 ships in January.
Breakbulk shipments rose by 6.2 per cent to 47,515 tons, while automobiles shed 39.5 per cent to 27,335 units.
