Yang Ming places US$50 million order with ZPMC
Taiwanese shipping line Yang Ming has ordered 22 automated rail-mounted gantry cranes (ARMG) from Shanghai Zhenhua Port Machinery which are worth US$50 million, Xinhua reported.
These gantry cranes are ordered for the port of Kaohsiung expansion project undertaken by Yang Ming.
The expansion project, which costs over TWD15 billion (US$432 million), is the heaviest investment ever made by the port of Kaohsiung during recent years, covering an area of 74.8 hectares and a quay length of 1,500 metres, comprising four new terminals with draught of 16 metres.
The four terminals will be completed during the period from 2011 to 2015 and can accommodate 100,000-tonne ships. Completion of the terminals can raise port of Kaohsiung's annual capacity by more than two million TEU, effectively relieving the port's capacity shortage problem.
ARMG is the latest container yard facility and can greatly enhance the efficiency of box loading and discharging by automatic operation without manpower.
