Requirements for double hull tankers are even tougher amid crisis – Aleksandr Misharin
Amid the economic crisis the requirements for double hull tankers do not reduce but get even tougher, PortNews IAA heard Aleksandr Misharin, deputy Minister of Transport, as saying at the enlarged meeting of the RorMorRechFlot (Russia’s Federal Agency of Marine and River Transport) in respect to requirements of international convention on tanker operation.
"The Ministry has made a decision on possible extension of operation of single-hull tankers for shipping companies undertaking real measures for fleet renovation,” Misharin underlined. “We will not approve extension of the terms in ports with a sufficient double-hulled fleet. We will apply systematic but selective approach ".
