Krasnodar Region Gov Trachev says Taman port set to become rival of Novorossiysk
Dry bulk cargo area at the port of Taman will likely be highly competitive with the seaport of Novorossiysk in terms of cargo traffic, the Krasnodar administration press office said quoting the regional governor as saying.
Cargo throughput at the new port area is estimated to reach 94 million tonnes a year, Krasnodar region Governor Alexander Trachev said at the meeting on the five-year comprehensive program for the region development.
Vice-Gov Vadim Lukoyanov has said that all the contractors, engaged in the port construction will be registered in Temryuk district.
The new dry bulk cargo area of Taman port will be built on the Taman Peninsula in Krasnodar region. The project will be implemented through the public-private partnership (PPP) scheme. The port will be integrated into the North-South international transport corridor. The port facilities construction will be funded through the Federal Target Program (FTP) "Development of Transport System of the Russian Federation for the period 2010-2015."
The new Taman port project includes building terminals for handling coal, grain, metals, containers, and possibly fertilizers. The government expects the new port will be able to handle at least 35 million tonnes annually in 2015 and 65 million tonnes by 2020.
