In January-February 2013, throughput of Russian seaports increased by 8%, year-on-year, to 88.5 mln tons, press center of the Association of Commercial Sea Ports informs.
Transshipment of dry cargo totaled 35.8 mln tons (+4.8%) in 14.1 mln tons of coal (+21.8%), 6.6 mln tons of containerized cargo (+2.9%), 1.9 mln tons of mineral fertilizers (+33.2%). Transshipment of ferrous metals fell to 4.2 mln tons (-7.1%), forest cargo – to 0.7 mln tons (-18.1%), grain – to 0.7 mln tons (almost 4 times).
Transshipment of liquid bulk cargo amounted to 52.7 mln tons (+10.3%) including 32.8 mln tons of crude oil (+8.4%) and 17.4 mln tons of oil products (+1.6%).
Export cargo throughput totaled 71.2 mln tons (+9.4%, year-on-year), import – 7.3 mln tons (+28.7%), transit – 5.6 mln tons (-25.4%), coastal trade cargo – 4.4 mln tons (+19.7%).
Operators of sea terminals in the Arctic Basin transshipped 7.3 mln tons of cargo (+43.8%, year-on-year). Transshipment of dry cargo surged to 3.8 mln tons (+8.5%), liquid bulk cargo – to 3.5 mln tons (over 2-fold). Throughput of Murmansk port increased to 4.7 mln tons (+44.6%), Vitino – to 0.9 mln tons (+32.8%), Varandey – to 0.8 mln tons (2.3 times), Arkhangelsk – to 0.7 mln tons (+44.6%).
In the Baltic Basin, the ports’ throughput climbed to 32.6 mln tons (+ 7.9%) including 11.8 mln tons of dry cargo (+8.0%), 20.8 mln tons of liquid bulk cargo (+7.8%). Throughput of Ust-Luga port raised to 8.4 mln tons (1.9 times) mainly due to the launch of liquid bulk terminals, port Vysotsk – to 2.4 mln tons (+12.1%), Kaliningrad – to 2.5 mln tons (+19.7%). However, the following ports decreased their results: Primorsk – to 11.2 mln tons (-14.9%) and Big Port St. Petersburg – to 7.9 mln tons т (-2.9%).
Throughput of seaports in the Azov-Black Sea Basin gained 4.8%, year-on-year, to 26.2 mln tons. Transshipment of dry cargo increased to 8.3 mln tons (+2.5%), liquid bulk cargo – to 17.9 mln tons (+5.9%). Operators of sea terminals at the following ports increased their throughput: Rostov-on-Don – to 1.2 mln tons (+31.9%), Azov – to 0.4 mln tons (1.7 times), Taman – to 1.0 mln tons (almost 5-fold due to the launch of oil terminal, Caucasus – to 0.9 mln tons (1.5 times), Temryuk – to 0.5 mln tons (almost 2.5 times), Taganrog – to 0.5 mln tons (1.6 times), Sochi – to 0.4 mln tons (1.7 times), Yeisk – to 0.3 mln tons (+2.1%), while the port of Novorossiysk decreased its result by 3.3% to 18.4 mln tons and port of Tuapse - 13.2% to 2.6 mln tons.
In the Caspian basin seaports handled 1.3 mln tons of cargo (-22.4%) including 0.5 mln tons of dry cargo (-26.0%), 0.8 mln tons of liquid bulk cargo (-0.5%). Throughput of Makhachkala port fell by 10.2%, that of Astrakhan – by 17.3%.
Seaports of the Far East Basin increased their throughput by 4.8% to 21.2 mln tons including 11.4 mln tons of dry cargo (+4.1%), 9.7 mln tons of liquid bulk cargo (+5.6%). The throughput was increased by Vostochny – by 19.3% to 7.7 mln tons, Vanino – by 10.5% to 3.0 mln tons, Vladivostok – by 11.4% to 2.1 mln tons. Throughput of Prigorodnoye fell by 5.7%, De-Castri - by 19.3%, Posiet – by 17.9%. The port of Nakhodka saw a slight increase of 0.8% having handled 2.6 mln tons od cargo.
Association of Sea Commercial Ports (ASOP) set up in 1987 unites over 50 organizations and enterprises of Russia’s maritime transport. ASOP comprises commercial seaports, forwarding and agency companies, scientific research institutes and marine educational institutions. Operational results of Russian port sector are based on statistics reports and cover all stevedoring companies operating in the Russian Federation.
