Kherson Shipyard (Ukraine) completes construction of 5,770-dwt Volga-Don max dry cargo carrier

Kherson Shipyard (Ukraine) and Concord Shipbuilding Corp have completed construction of the dry cargo carrier Captain Chekha (project 005RSD06.02). Solemn flag-raising ceremony was held at the shipyard’s water area on April 29, Marine Engineering Bureau, the designer reports.

It is the first dry cargo carrier built by the shipyard for VERNAL.
 
The vessel was built according to a normative document developed by Russian River Register under supervision of Nikolai Efremov, Doctor of Economics.
 
Designing and construction was supervised by RRR Don-Kuban branch (the branch head – Yuri Sklyarenko). The vessel was built as М-СП 3.5 class and reclassified as KM Ice1 R2-RSN of RRR allowing international voyages in the Black, Mediterranean, Baltic and a number of other seas.
 
The vessel project 005RSD06.02 has a double bottom and double sides and is classified as Volga-Don max class (length - 138.84 m, breadth – 16.5 m).
 
Captain Chekha is a modification of project 005RSD06.01, Chelsea type.
 
The vessel is optimized to work with draft of 3.20-3.97 m. Maximal deadweight with draft of 3.97 m in the sea is 5,774 tonnes, with draft 3.60 m in the river – 4,813 tonnes.
 
The vessel is designed to transport general cargo, dry bulk, timber, grain and large size and hazardous cargo. Total capacity of four holds – 9,821m³. Allowable load for the second bottom – 6.5 t per sq. m.

The vessel was laid down on December 24, 2004 at Yuzhny Sevastopol shipyard which built the hull and then transported to Kherson Shipyard for completion and fitting. Ship owner supposes construction of another vessel of the series at Kherson Shipyard.
