''All the modalities have been finalised to appoint a consultant to study and prepare a ports master plan,'' a senior official with the ports and shipping ministry was reported as saying.
The proposals include a draught of at least 16.5 metres (m) in all ports, development of private terminals and increasing port capacity over the next five years.
Issues relating to port capacity include availability of navigation aids, tugs, dredgers, cranes, bunkers, water, power, manpower, customs, immigration, security and environmental concerns.
