First phase of transshipment complex opened in Olya port

The first phase of transshipment complex for ro-ro and general cargo has been opened in Olya port (Astrakhan region). As the Federal Agency of Marine and River Transport reports, the ceremony was attended by Aleksandr Davydenko, head of RorMorRechFlot, and Vadim Antipov, deputy Director General of RosMorPort FSUE.

Federal budget allocated resources within the framework of the federal special-target program “Modernization of Russia’s Transport System” for construction of the berth No4 (180 meters long) with quay tracks and motor way ensuring approach to the port’s transshipment facilities as well as for formation of the berth’s operating water area.

The above facilities make it possible to handle up to 200,000 tonnes of general cargo at the berth No4, press release of RorMorRechFlot reads. As soon as all the facilities of the complex are put into operation total throughput of the berth No4 will reach its design level of 467,600 tonnes of cargo per year.

This year, RosMorPort FSUE plans to hold a competition to select a contractor for construction of the berth No 5 which will be used not only for handling general cargo but also for handling auto ferries.

Earlier RF Minister of Transport Igor Levitin noted Olya port is considered to be a “white hope”. “In fact, the entire Astrakhan transport hub will be transferred to this port. It will be a basic port of Astrakhan hub,” Levitin said.
