First vessels of North Western Shipping Company have commenced cargo transportation by Volga-Baltic waterway, the company’s PR Department reports. According to the source, on May 4, motor vessels Volgo-Balt-238, Volgo-Balt-211, Baltijsky-107 were sent to the ports of Vologda and Leningrad region to be loaded with export timber destined for Finland, France and Sweden.
Al in all export-import transportation of cargo between the ports of Russia’s inland waterways and European sea and river ports will involve some 100 vessels of North Western Shipping Company in navigation 2009.
North Western Shipping Company is Russia’s largest carrier specializing in transportation of loose and bulk cargo with batches from 1,000 to 5,000 tonnes. Cargo transportation is carried out by 133 motor vessels including 104 vessels owned by the company and chartered from Volga Shipping. The company carries 6.6 million tonnes of cargo per year. North Western Shipping Company is a part of Independent Transport Company.
