The new service will directly connect cargo from WWL’s U.S. East coast ports of Baltimore, Md. and Savannah, Ga. to Ecuador and Peru. WWL will also accept transshipped cargo for this service from Galveston, Long Beach, Tacoma, Mexico, and a variety of Central and South American and Asian, Australian and European ports. WWL’s Gulf/Caribbean transshipment hub is at Manzanillo, Panama.
John Felitto, executive vice president, Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics region Americas, said in a statement issued by WWL that “South America’s economy attracts a variety of ro-ro cargo, from vehicles to agricultural, construction, mining and factory equipment. Our service will be an important new option for forwarders, shippers and original equipment manufacturers looking to improve their current service or searching for new markets. This service will also help South American exporters meet their transportation needs.”
