Novoship’s new tanker NS Arctic delivered

On 4 May 2009 the delivery ceremony of the product carrier NS Arctic ordered by JSC Novoship (Novorossiysk Shipping Company) took place at Hyundai Heavy Industries Со., Ltd., Korea.

The 112 000 DWT ice-class tanker NS Arctic is designed to carry up to 4 various types of cargo simultaneously, including light oil. NS Arctic has the following specifications:

Length on Average – 250.0 m

Breadth Moulded – 44.0 m

Draft Moulded – 14.7 m

Service Speed (open water) – 15.0 knots

NS Arctic is the first vessel in the series of four product carriers ordered by Novoship in accordance with the company’s Fleet Renewal Programme. Her sister ships NS Antarctic, NS Asia and NS Africa will be delivered by the end of 2009.

The design and the operational characteristics of the vessels are in compliance with the ultimate requirements of Oil Majors as well as the requirements set by international and national conventions related to the safety of navigation and the protection of marine environment. DNV has issued the Clean Notation for NS Arctic which means conformity to the highest industry ecological standard possible.

The new tanker has been built with consideration of existing major oil companies’ projects and is intended for the Russian cargo.

Sovcomflot Group believes its modern, well-maintained fleet is a significant competitive advantage in the global market. At present there are 31 new vessels on order representing 2.5 million deadweight tons at shipyards of Russia, South Korea and China. The vessels are scheduled for delivery by the fourth quarter of 2010.
