In the first quarter of 2009, port Primorsk (Leningrad region) increased transshipment of export oil cargo by 6%, year-on-year, to 19.243 million tonnes, Administration of Big Port St. Petersburg states.
Turnover of vessels totaled 467 (233 in + 234 out).
Commercial seaport Primorsk was put into operation on December 27, 2001 as the final stage of the first phase of Baltic Pipeline System (BPS) aimed at oil transportation from Timano-Pechersk and West-Siberian oil-and-gas provinces as well as from Kazakhstan. Primorsk is the largest port in the North-West region of Russia to export crude and oil products. In 2008, 75.58 million tonnes of oil cargo was exported via the port of Primorsk.
