Port of Tallinn handles 10.5 mln t of cargo in Jan-Apr 09

In January-April 2009, the port of Tallinn handled 10.452 million tonnes of cargo, which is the same as in January-April 2008. In April, the port’s throughput climbed by 24% to 2.86 million tonnes, RZD-Partner reports.

In the reported period the port unloaded 2.25 million tonnes of cargo, loaded – 8.16 million tonnes. Transshipment of oil products increased by 11.4%, to 8.2 million tonnes in January-April 2009.

In the 4-month period the port serviced 1.9 million passengers (+4.5%, year-on-year). In January-April 2009 the port handled 1,426 passenger and 855 cargo vessels.

Commercial Seaport of Tallinn is a large cargo and passenger seaport located at the southern shore of the Tallinn Bay. It was founded in 1219. Tallinn is the third largest port of the Baltic Sea after St. Petersburg and Primorsk. The port consists of 5 port ones: Muuga, Old City Harbour, Paljassaare, Paldiski South and Saaremaa. In 2008, the port handled 29.077 million tonnes.
