Throughput of Illichivsk port (Ukraine) down 10.9% to 5.7 mln t in Jan-Apr 09

In January-April 2009, Sea Commercial Port of Illichivsk (Ukraine) handled 5.661 million tonnes of cargo (-10.9%, year-on-year). In April the company handled 1.358 million tonnes of cargo (-14.9%).

In April 2009, transshipment of general cargo fell by 34.9%, transshipment of dry bulk was up 29.8%, liquid bulk cargo – up 15.8%.

The highest growth rates was demonstrated in transshipment of pig-iron (+36.6%), vegetable oil (+116.7%) and loose grain (+213.0%).

The most critical fall was registered in transshipment of automotive equipment (-76%) and containers (-57%).

The port of Illichivsk is situated on the North coast of the Black Sea. The port has facilities capable of handling over 30 million tonnes of cargoes annually; modern berths with total quay line of 6,000 m; facilities which can provide simultaneous storage of 1,5 million tonnes of cargo. Multimodal Complex of the port has independent entrances for rail wagons and motor transport. It accepts vessels of all flags and types with maximal draught of up to 13 meters and deadweight of up to 100,000 tonnes. Round-the-year navigation and icebreaking pilotage is available in the port. In 2008, the port handled 18.904 million tonnes of cargo.
