In the first quarter of 2009 the turnover of goods in Baltic ports was 34.408 million tons, 5.5 % down compared to the 1st quarter of 2008, reported Central Statistical Management of Latvia according to RZD-Partner.
The share of Latvian ports in this quarter's total turnover of goods was 48.2 %, Lithuanian – 24.9 % and Estonian – 26.8 %.
Latvian ports have handled 16.598 million tons of cargoes (1.4 % down), Lithuanian ports – 8.581 million tons (12.8 % down) and Estonian – 9.229 million tons (5,2 % down).
Port of Ventspils has handled 7.842 million tons of cargoes (-6,1 %), Tallinn – 7.592 million tons (-6,7 %) and Riga - 7,452 million tons (+6,5 %).
In 2008 the turnover of goods in Baltic ports was 138.752 million tons.
