Severnaya Zemlya bulker enters the fleet of Murmansk Shipping Company

Severnaya Zemlya bulker has entered the fleet of JSC Murmansk Shipping. The flag raising ceremony was held on May 8 at Chengxi Shipyard Co., LTD in China, the company reports.

The vessel’s displacement is 31,755 tonnes, deadweight – 23,645 tonnes, length – 173.280 meters, breadth – 22.86 meters, draft – 9.91 meters. M/v Severnaya Zemlya is the fifth bulker of strengthened ice-class vessels purchased by the company during last 4 years within the framework of the fleet renovation program. Earlier the company purchased similar bulkers: Grumant (2006), Pomorye (2007), Zapolyarye (2008), Novaya Zemlya (2009).

JSC Murmansk Shipping Company was founded in 1939 as a company specializing in Arctic transportation. JSC Murmansk Shipping Company is a highly integrated corporate structure. It includes fleet of three shipping companies: JSC Murmansk Shipping Company, JSC Northern Shipping Company, JSC Northern River Shipping Lines, their total deadweight is about 2 million tons (306) vessels. Cargo transportation share of JSC "Murmansk Shipping Company" is 40% in transportation market among vessels working under the Russian flag. According to presidential decree dated August 4, 2004, JSC Murmansk Shipping Company is included into the list of strategic enterprises and strategic joint stock companies. The state share in the company’s authorized capital is 25.5%.
