This year a new oil terminal has started work in the Midiya. It belongs to The Rompetrol Group NV (TRG), which is the Romanian asset of the JSC NK "KazMunaiGas". The Kazakh company acquired 75 % in TRG in 2008; the sum of the transaction was $1650 million. The Kazakh party declared its intention to use the new asset for moving to the European market.
The Midiya terminal was put into operation and received the first cargo in the beginning of 2009. This terminal is assigned to deliver raw material for two Romanian oil refinery plants, which belong to TRG and provide production for Eastern and Central Europe. According to TRG, this terminal can receive tankers of up to 165,000 tons deadweight. In future the capacity of this terminal will be up to 24 million tons a year. The next TRG’s step is to increase the crude oil storage capacity of the adjoining Petromidia oil base from the current 0.5 million tons to 1.5 million.
