All Russian railway transport will soon be equipped with receivers for the Russian navigation system GLONASS, states the head of RosCosmos Anatoly Perminov.
"Soon 100 % of all locomotives, carriages, and all other forms of railway transport will be provided with the GLONASS system", - A.Perminov said on Tuesday.
He added that more than 10 thousand navigating receivers have already been supplied to RZD, Interfax reports according to RZD-Partner.
The main difficulty with the navigators is their installation on freight wagons. The Head of Roscosmos explained that cargo owners demanded that each container should have GLONASS system instrumentation fitted in order to define the exact location of cargoes on the territory of the country.
The situation is complicated by the large number of freight wagons in existance and the necessity for each receiver to have a separate power supply source. Unlike carriages, freight wagons are not supplied with electricity.
