The tender for the Gdynia Shipyard property will take place on May 13-14 and the Szczecin Shipyard tender on May 15-16.
The ARP however denied news reports by Radio Zet that the Kuwaiti government had teamed up with an investment fund from Qatar to buy the Gdynia shipyard. "All [the] offers came from European companies," said Roma Sarzynska, spokesperson for the ARP. She refused to provide any more details about tender participants.
The estimated values of both shipyards were taken into account in their asking prices - Gdynia Shipyard is valued at zl.308 million, while Szczecinska Nowa Shipyard is thought to be worth zl.100 million. The properties have been divided into four categories: real estate with machinery; financial assets; movable equipment and manufactured goods; and other property.
If any assets remain unsold following the tender, they will be offered for sale in an open auction. If this is unsuccessful, a bankruptcy trustee will be able to sell the properties for a symbolic zl.1.
The sale of the Gdynia and Szczecin shipyards follows an EC decision made in November 2008. The EC considered financial assistance provided by the state budget to be illegal and ordered the money to be returned by June 6, 2009. In order to facilitate repayment, special shipyard legislation was introduced that allows for the sale of the shipyards’ property in unlimited tenders.
