Investment into infrastructure of Klaipeda port to make $283 mln by 2015

By 2015, LTL 722.9 mln ($282.9 mln) will be invested in the infrastructure of Klaipeda port, Lithuanian Ministry of Transport and Communication reports according to Kurier.Lt. The figure includes LTL 473.8 mln to be allocated by European Union Fund.

The list of 14 projects has been approved by Eligijus Masiulis, Minister of Transport and Communication. The largest project (LTL 172.6 mln) is infrastructure of passenger-cargo terminal. Other projects: development of Klaipeda railway hub, expansion of railway stations in Klaipeda, Rimkai and Draugyste, development of approaches to cargo terminals in the southern part of Klaipeda port.
 

Klaipeda State Seaport is the northernmost ice-free port on the Eastern coast of the Baltic Sea.

19 big stevedoring companies, ship - repair and ship – building yards operate within the port and all marine business and cargo handling services are being rendered. The annual port cargo handling capacity is up to 40 million tons. The port is capable of handling dry cargo carriers of up to 70,000 tonnes in deadweight and tankers of up to 100,000 tonnes in deadweight. In 2008, the port handled 29.877 million tonnes of cargo.
