Ningbo-Chengdu sea-rail intermodal to be launched this year

EASTERN China city Ningbo has signed a number of agreements with south western city Sichuan, including starting sea-rail intermodal service between the two this year, Logistics Week reported.

The agreements were signed in a bid to fully exploit the strengths of port and railway infrastructures in the two places to create mutual benefit by offering Sichuan shippers a faster way for transporting their exports and expanding cargo sources for the port of Ningbo.

Ningbo will provide a subsidy of CNY500 (US$73.30) for every container using the service, while Sichuan has promised to offer matching discounts to fees in support of government policies.

The two sides have also agreed to cooperate on simplifying customs clearance procedures for cargo moving between the two places.
