Throughput of Big Port of St. Petersburg down 27% to 13.6 mln t in Jan-Apr 09

In January-April 2009, Big Port of St. Petersburg handled 13.548 million tonnes of cargo (-27%, year-on-year), the port’s Administration states.

In the reported period, transshipment of dry bulk fell by 31% to 2.016 million tonnes. Transshipment of general cargo fell by 27% to almost 3.485 million tonnes while transshipment of ferrous metal and non-ferrous metal increased by 22% and 4% respectively. Transshipment of scrap metal fell by 86%.

In January-April, the company handled 3.797 million tonnes of oil cargo (+4%, year-on-year). 

The port’s container throughput fell by 35% to 4.052 million tonnes.

In the 4-month period, turnover of vessels in port St. Petersburg totaled 3,459 units (1,727 in and 1,732 out)

In 2008, Big Port of St. Petersburg handled 59.9 million tonnes of cargo with turnover of vessels amounting to 29,647 units. Over 20 stevedoring companies operate in the port.
