Grand Alliance merges JCX and SCX services into one loop

THE Grand Alliance has announced it will merge the SCX (South China Sea Express) and the JCX (Japan China Express) into a single loop with the first sailing from Thailand on May 25.

Grand Alliance will offer the same port coverage under the new service, said a statement from the consortium, whose members are Hapag-Lloyd, NYK and OOCL, following the recent announcement of the coming departure of Malaysia's MISC.

"MISC Berhad does not operate on this trade and therefore has not participated in this particular agreement," said the Grand Alliance statement.

One additional 6,200-TEU ship will be added to the SCX service, and Japanese ports previously covered on the JCX will be covered by the upgraded SCX service, said the group.

Kaohsiung will be transferred to the Super Shuttle Express (SSX) service on the transpacific eastbound call, while the westbound call on SCX will remain unchanged, the statement said.

Port rotation on the SCX service will be: Laem Chabang, Singapore, Kobe, Nagoya, Tokyo, Sendai, Los Angeles, Oakland, Tokyo, Nagoya, Kobe, Kaohsiung, Shenzhen (Shekou) and back to Laem Chabang.

Port rotation on the SSX will be: Shenzhen (Shekou and Yantian), Hong Kong, Kaohsiung, Long Beach, Kaosiung, Xiamen, Hong Kong and back to Shenzhen (Shekou).

"The merged SCX service will allow the Grand Alliance to continue offering our customers the competitive and high quality service they are used to," the statement said.
