Hanjin Shipping expands fleet with 4,300-TEU newbuilding

SOUTH KOREA's Hanjin Shipping has taken delivery of a 4,300-TEU newbuilding named the Hanjin Monaco, the last in a series of eight similar-sized vessels to be built by Samsung Heavy Industries in an order that dates back to 2005.

This modern containership is equipped with a fuel-efficient and eco-friendly engine and is scheduled to be deployed in the company's All Water North Atlantic (AWN) service, departing from Busan on May 23.

The port rotation for the AWN service is: Kaohsiung, Yantian, Shanghai, Busan, New York, Norfolk, Savannah, Kaohsiung.

"Deploying this ship will allow us to provide our customers with better services," said Won Woo Lee, chief executive of Hanjin Shipping's Container Liner Business Unit. "Despite the current global economic recession and the instable shipping market, we will carry on our efforts to create optimal fleet as we have planned for our long-term growth."

The Hanjin Monaco will be the last vessel to be delivered to Hanjin Shipping until the end of 2010.
