The introduction of a train service will allow for the optimization of a passenger transport scheme.
It is also noted in the same message, that Michael Zaichenko, the Director of the Far East Railway, believes that railway communication in the Far East plays a leading role in international cooperation, including cargo transport, the development of mineral deposits, cultural communications and tourism.
For example, the Far East Railway International Communication Service says that 80 % of wood (more than 5.5 million tons in 2008) is transported by railway, and only 20 % by sea, and at Vladivostok, 99.1 % of wood is transported by rail.
Most cargo goes through the Grodekovo border station in Primorye Territory (Grodekovo-Suifenkhe border crossing point). Last year 434 million tons of cargo was transported on international routes. 8,104,948 tons from this figure was cargo from Russia to China, and 329,199 tons from China to Russia.
The message says that railwaymen are preparing to increase cargo movements after economic stagnation is over. The tendency towards improvement is evident even now. In January 2009 foreign trade transit cargo on Far East Railway was 27.9 % compared to January 2008, in March – 72.9 % to March 2008, and in April it was already 96.9 % to April 2009. The reason of such a growth is that new cargoes have been attracted such as mineral oil and coal. The technology for their transportation has been worked out, and in future an increase in volumes is planned.
In May RZD and a Chinese logistical company signed a contract to transport large-capacity containers from China to Asia-Pacific countries and to the south of China, through the port of Vladivostok. Regular services are planned from June 2009.
Also, the movement of iron has been increased by 15 % in the first 4 months of 2009.
