Yuzhny port plans to triple throughput by 2015

Commercial seaport Yuzhny (Odessa region, Ukraine) plans to increase its throughput by 278% to 82 million tonnes. It was announced by Mikhail Chubai, Chairman of the State Administration of Marine and River transport, deputy Minister of Transport and Communications, during his visit to the port. According to the port’s press center, this growth is envisaged by the program of perspective development till 2015.

Expected capacity of the complex is to make 1.2 million tonnes per year, depth at wharf face – 15 m with a possibility to deepen it to 17 m.

 

Yuzhny port is located at the north-western coast of the Black Sea, in ice-free Maly Adzhalyksky (Grigorievsky) estuary, 30 km from Odessa port. The port provides all-the-year-round navigation. The port’s approach channel is 2 miles long and 14.5 meters deep. The port’s outer anchorage can accommodate 24 vessels. The berthing line of the port is 2.6 kilometers long, the depth at the berth ranges within 12.5-15 meters. The port’s open storage space is 145,000 square meters. In 2008, the port handled 21.698 million tonnes of cargo.
