AB Vakaru laivu gamykla (VLG) subsidiary UAB Vakaru laivu remontas (VLR) in May has completed one of the first large-scale ship modernizations of the year 2009. After more than 5 months of diligent work, 61 m. length and 13,5 m. breadth oil rigs service ship ”Sentinel“ has been delivered to Customer.
”Encounter with technically complicated work – the installation of aft thruster under aft shaft line, induced us to take special precautions because from the professional point of view that was rather a challenge. During the project realization a close watch had to be kept on, in order not to damage the shaft line and to keep accurately to all the requirements“ – told BC UAB Vakaru laivu remontas director Algis Rukas.
”However, after successful completion of all planned works for our regular client, the Italian company Diamar S.p.A., we manifested once again that VLG Company group professionals can be trusted“.
During the offshore market designed supply and service ship ”Sentinel“ modernization ~76 tons of steel were renewed, bow and aft thrusters were mounted, DP system was installed, new power diesel generators, electricity, ventilation and other systems were mounted. Main deck was also renewed, thorough renovation of all accomodation spaces was accomplished, new furniture and techniques were installed. VLG subsidiary UAB Vakaru korpusu konstrukcijos executed all hull related jobs. More than 10 subcontracting companies were involved in this project.
At present the work is also partway on other ship ”Mikal With“ modernization at VLR, designed for fish-culture industry. Her hull will be elongated by 12 meter length, 250 ton insert, hoppers for fish food, new fish food distribution line, DP system will be installed, electric power station capacity will be increased and many other technically sophisticated works will be realized.
According to Western shipyard director Algis Rukas, the company endevours not to neglect current market positions, aims at keeping work load and the basic personnel. ”Shipping industry did not manage to escape the downturn, however, we take measures to smooth the consequences“, – affirmed A.Rukas.
