Maersk rises India-Europe rate and piracy surcharge

Denmark's Maersk Line will levy a rate increase for cargo moving from India to Europe of US$100 per dry cargo container from June 1, the company said.
Considered a rate restoration, the increase covers cargo moving from Kolkata, Haldia, Visakhapatnam, Chennai, Tuticorin, Cochin, Mangalore and Goa to all destinations in Europe and North Africa.
Maersk also announced that it is raising its emergency piracy surcharge, reported Newark's Journal of Commerce, to offset rising insurance costs on containers moving through the Gulf of Aden from $25 per TEU from June 1, up from $20 at present, and then from $50 per TEU as of June 1.
