Total turnover of North-Western Shipping Company down 22% to 1.3 mln t in Q1 09

In the first quarter of 2009, North-Western Shipping Company carried 1.263 million tonnes of cargo (-22%, year-on-year), the company’s PR Department reports.

In the reported period, transportation of import cargo fell by 43% to 103,000 tonnes. Transportation between foreign ports totaled 448,800 tonnes (-48%, year-on-year).

In the first quarter of the current year transportation of timber and scrap ferrous metal decreased 2 times to 109,400 tonnes and 111,000 tonnes respectively, transportation of fertilizers fell 3 times to 110,400 tonnes. 

Transportation of export cargo increased by 20% to 708,000 (+20%).  

North Western Shipping Company is Russia’s largest carrier specializing in transportation of loose and bulk cargo with batches from 1,000 to 5,000 tonnes. Cargo transportation is carried out by 133 motor vessels including 68 vessels owned by the company and 36 chartered from Volga Shipping.
