Russian and Finnish shipbuilding and marine industries strengthening their cooperation

The Association of Finnish Marine Industries and Russian joint stock company United Shipbuilding Corporation (OCK) have signed a cooperation agreement in Helsinki, with an aim to explore the opportunities of Finnish shipbuilding and marine industry to participate in shipbuilding programmes of Russian shipyards.

OCK is a joint stock company that started its operation in April. It administers Russia's largest shipyards in North-Western and Northern Russia and the Far East, as well as the marine design offices in their service.

Offshore Technology Center Oy will coordinate the implementation of the agreement on behalf of the Association of Finnish Marine Industries. In Finland, the participants will include the largest shipyards, design offices and equipment and material suppliers.

The agreement signed is believed to open up significant delivery opportunities for Finnish shipbuilding and marine industry companies in the Russian market. The Russian party has expressed its particular interest in arctic expertise, design competence, offshore technology and certain equipment and material deliveries. Furthermore, the cooperation is estimated to open up new business opportunities between Finland and Russia, for instance, in relation to the development of new shipyards.

On behalf of the Russian party, the agreement was signed by OCK's President Vladimir Pahomov and, on behalf of Finland, by Martin Landtman, Chairman of the Board of the Association of Finnish Marine Industries.
