Chairperson for Container at the Indonesian National Shipowners' Association (INSA) Asmari Hery revealed it was not sufficient to merge the operation of the two container terminals to realize a hub port in Tanjung Priok.
According to him, the hub port should also be supported with a container handling charge standard equivalent to the standards applied in Singapore, Malaysia, and China.
Chairperson of the Indonesian Transportation Service Users' Board (Depalindo) Toto Dirgantoro revealed since four years ago goods owners had been urging the merge of JICT and the Koja container terminal to make Tanjung Priok a hub port.
The merge of the two terminals would prevent foreign exchange flight on the necessary to make export-import transshipment at a port in Singapore or Malaysia.
Toto added such transhipment practice had made Indonesia lose US$137 million in foreign exchange per annum from three million TEUs.
