  Ports of Stockholm included in expert group for sustainable shipping

  

  Gun Rudeberg, Company Lawyer and Legal and Social Director at Ports of Stockholm, has been appointed to represent the Baltic Ports Organisation (BPO) in the European Commission's new expert group for sustainable shipping, the European Sustainable Shipping Forum (ESSF), Ports of Stockholm announces in the press release.

  Gun RudebergThe purpose of the group is to support the work of the European Commission in developing sustainable shipping. The group will be a forum for dialogue and will provide the opportunity to exchange knowledge about technological solutions and coordination in different areas. Representatives from ports, shipping companies, maritime commodity owners, shipbuilders etc. from the whole of Europe will be gathered together.

  The new sulphur content regulations that come into force on 1 January 2015 form the basis for the formation of the ESSF. These new regulations are more stringent about how much sulphur dioxide may be emitted by vessels and will have a major impact on shipping.

  The maritime industry is facing major reforms to be able to adapt to the new regulations. That is why the European Commission has decided on a number of measures to try to minimize the negative effects that such reforms can bring. The role of the expert group will be to assist the European Commission in implementing these measures, by contributing expertise and experience.
  The Forum will meet for the first time on 27 November 2013 and the work of the Forum will continue until 31 December 2015.
