Russia’s Federation Council approves termination of Russian-Ukrainian agreements on Black Sea Fleet

The upper house of the Russian Parliament, the Federation Council has approved the termination of Russian-Ukrainian agreements on stationing of the Russian Black Sea Fleet in Ukraine, FC press center says. 

On March 31, 2014, State Duma of the Russian Federation passed the bill on denunciation of the Russian-Ukrainian agreements on the Black Sea Fleet having supported the proposal of RF President, press center of United Russia Party informs.

The State Duma deputies unanimously approved in the first reading and in general the Bill on termination of agreement related to the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation stationed in Ukraine.

The document was submitted to the State Duma on March 28 and it was supported by all parliamentary factions.

The Bill terminates the Russian-Ukrainian agreements signed on May 28, 1997: on the parameters of division of the Black Sea Fleet, on the status and conditions of the Russian Black Sea Fleet’s deployment on the territory of Ukraine, on reciprocal payments in connection with the Russian Black Sea Fleet’s deployment in Ukraine as well as on the stationing of the Russian Black Sea Fleet in Ukraine signed on April 21, 2010.
