By 2030, the capacity of coal terminals in Russian seaports will grow 2.5 times to 190 - 230 mln t. This forecast was announced by Energy Minister Aleksandr Novak at the Government meeting. According to him, the majority of the new port facilities will be put into operation in the Far East region, their capacity to reach 155 mln t by 2030. This forecast makes the ground for the revised programme for the development of coal industry in Russia. According to the revision, coal exports from Russia will grow by 70 mln t. Besides, the eastward / westward flow ratio will change.
“According to the forecasts of the international agencies, coal market will grow in the Asia-Pacific region 1.5 times by 2030. The programme sets a task not just to preserve the position in this market but also to increase our share from 6% to 15%. With the development of the railway transport, additional volumes will be dispatched eastwards from Kuzbass (some 36 mln t), additional 50 mln t will be exported from the new Russian projects in the Far East region,” the Minister said.
Beside, the programme foresees two scenarios of coal production growth. According to the optimistic one, coal production will hot 480 mln t per year, the pessimistic one - 410 mln t. “We are still focused on the optimistic one keeping in mind the growth rates of the previous years which tend to exceed those forecasted envisioned by the programme”, Aleksandr Novak said.
