Nuclear icebreaker Yamal to set off for expedition on April 8

Nuclear icebreaker Yamal is to leave Murmansk on April 8, 2014, at 23:30 Moscow time. As IAA PortNews was informed by the press center of FSUE Atomflot, the expedition of the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute will explore the Arctic shelf. The vessel is presently moored at the berth of port Murmansk. 

The voyage will last for 55 days. The expedition has been arranged by Rosneft.

The expedition programme includes the research activities in the area of the Kara Sea, Laptev Sea and New Siberian Islands.

Atomflot says this expedition is a continuation of the previous one which also started in Murmansk a year ago. Its task was to research ice and hydrometeorological situation in the south-western part of the Kara Sea water area.
