In January-March 2014, 9,920,400 t of cargo (+21.7%, year-on-year), IAA PortNews learnt from the port authorities. In the reported period, coal transshipment climbed by 10.2% to 3,420,800 t, oil products – by 36.5% to 2,827,100 t, timber – by 12.4% to 529,500 t, , scrap metal – by 26.1% to 168,100 t, transshipment of wood pellets fell by 37.2% to 152,500 t. Besides, the port handled 68,000 t of ore (up 4-fold).
The port’s container throughput climbed by 2% to 95,000 985 TEUs. Passenger turnover climbed by 3.5% to 162,878 passengers 3,042 cruise passengers (-39.8%, year-on-year).
Freeport of Riga lies on both banks of the River Daugava covering 6.3 hectares. The port’s berth length is 13,800 meters, maximum draft at the berths is 12.2 meters. Up to 80% of the Freeport of Riga cargo turnover is made up of transit cargoes forwarded to or received from the CIS countries. In 2013, the port’s throughput declined by 1.6%, year-on-year, to 35,466,700 t of cargo.
