Busan Port initiates its network

The Busan Port consultative organization was launched to cope with the global shipping environment including ‘P3 Network’ operated by the global large shipping companies, the company said in its press release.

Busan Port Authority(BPA) stated that ‘Busan Port Network,’ consisting of 30 officials from the MOF, BPA, Busan City, shipping companies, terminal operators, and academics, was established at the BPA conference room on the 2nd.

At the gathering, participants presented opinions on cost reduction including landing charges and introducing ITT, an effective transportation system between terminals, are crucial to attract transshipment cargo to Busan Port.

In addition, attendees also discussed vitalizing distripark functions for cargo increase, strengthening incentives for transshipment cargo, and supporting expenses for using feeders.

The Busan Port Network plans to deal with the rapidly changing global shipping environment in the future, and to become a communicative space for raising the competitiveness of Busan in the long term.

There were growing concerns over P3 Network launch (global 1~3 players; Dutch Maersk, French CMA-CGM, Swiss MSC) because mega sized vessels will call directly at major pots.

Busan Port is a transshipment cargo oriented port where transshipment cargo accounts for 49percent of its total cargo volume.
