In January-March 2014, the port of Tallinn (Estonia) handled 8.3 mln t of cargo (+7.5%, year-on-year), the port authority says. In March, the port throughput surged by 25% to 2.9 mln t.
In QI'14, transshipment of liquid bulk cargo climbed by 7% to 6.1 mln t, transshipment of dry cargo was steady at 576,000 t.
The port’s container throughput increased by 20% to 0.5 mln t, transshipment of ro-ro cargo increased by 10% to 0.9 mln t.
The number of passengers carried by Tallinn-Helsinki route increased by 5% to 1.56 mln persons, by Tallinn-Stockholm – by 4% to 213,000 persons.
The port of Tallinn is the forth largest port in the Baltic sea after the ports of St. Petersburg, Primorsk and Ust-Luga. It comprises four port areas: Muuga, Old City Harbour, Paljassaare, Paldiski South and Saaremaa. In 2013, throughput of port Tallinn totaled 28.25 mln t.
