Cargo transportation by North-Western Shipping Company down 8% to 1.42 mln t in QI'14

In January-March 2014, North-Western Shipping Company carried 1.42 mln t of cargo (-8%, year-on-year), press center of NWSC says.

Export volumes totaled 0.6 mln t (-6%), import – 0.09 mln t (-7%), transportation between foreign ports – 0.73 mln t (-1%).

Despite the decline of total volumes, the company’s fleet operated with higher efficiency as compared with the first quarter of 2013, the statement says. This was achieved mainly due to transportation of high-rate cargoes (grain, fertilizers, ferrous metal) by the company’s new vessels.

10 vessels of project DCV36 Amethyst and 7 vessels of project RSD49 Neva-Leader carried 0.43 mln t of cargo (30% of the total volume). The company’s freight revenue climbed by 40% to RUB 1.4 bln.

In the reported period, grain transportation increased by 13% to 0.35 mln t, chemical and mineral fertilizers – by 15% to 0.39 mln t.
