Siemens Industry was awarded a multi-million dollar contract by BAE Systems to equip Oceaneering International’s (OI) Multipurpose Subsea Support and Construction Vessel (MSSCV) for offshore oil & gas support, with its unique Diesel Electric Propulsion (DEP) solution. BAE Systems located in Mobile, Ala. will build the vessel, Siemens said in a press release.
The vessel will be equipped with Siemens True 24 pulse Blue™ Drive low voltage DEP Solution which improves reliability due to failsafe features that will increase fuel efficiency, provide ultra-low THD on the vessels main 690V Power Distribution System and overall safe and ease of operation for the vessel and crew.
“Siemens is committed to the growing demand in the marine industry. Products and systems such as our Blue™ Drive, Integrated Alarm System (IAS 400) and integrated Power Management (PMA300) provide owners and operators with advanced technologies giving them the most fuel efficient, safe and productive vessels possible,” says Doug Keith, president, Drive Technologies division, Siemens Industry.
The Siemens integrated propulsion solution will also include the main generators, vessel automation, switchboards, power management, drive transformers and propulsion motors. Siemens integrated Diesel Electric System increases vessel propulsion efficiency, increases vessel energy (fuel) efficiency, provides ease of maintenance for the operators and ultimately a more productive vessel for the owner.
The DP2 MSSCV will be built to the MT6022 design from Norway’s Marin Teknikk. The 353 foot long vessel will consist of a 72 foot beam, a 250-ton active heave compensated crane capable of reaching 4,000 meter water depth, accommodations for 110 personnel and a working moonpool. The vessel will also be outfitted with two 13,000 foot rated Oceaneering work class remotely operated vehicles.
Expected delivery of the vessel is by the end of the first quarter 2016.
