Stena Line to raise freight rates by 15% from 2015 due to new sulphur content limits in ECAs

Stena Line plans a 15-pct increase of freight rates from 2015 due to new sulphur content limits (0.1%) to be introduced in the Baltic and the North Seas (Emission Control Areas), Björn Petrusson, Stena Line Freight Director, told IAA PortNews at the international transport and logistics exhibition  TransRussia 2014.

According to him, the vessels of the company will use MGO in ECA from 2015.

Besides, the company has been financed by EU to study the possibility of using methanol and liquefied natural gas (LNG) as a marine fuel. The first vessel is to run on methanol from early 2016, at Kiel – Gothenburg line.

Stena Line is a ferry operator with 23 routes and 39 vessels in operation. Annually, the company transports 2.2 mln freight units (28 mln t).
